Website Launch for Overview Media.

I am honoured that Heather Fitt, who has recently started her own proof reading and editing business has asked me to help launch her new website,

I shall hand over to Heather to tell you more…

Website Launch Blog Post

Reading has been a part of my life for forever; I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love having my nose in a book. I distinctly remember when the library told me I could take out twelve books at a time instead of just six; I couldn’t have been more than 10 years old. Being sent to my room for misbehaving was a dream – I would sit and read for hours. I was the girl you saw reading whilst walking between classes at school. When people asked me what I wanted to be or do when I grew up I didn’t really know, I would jokingly reply ‘I want to be paid to read books!’ Can you imagine my surprise when, at the age of 36, I realised I could be paid to read books?

In 2017 I met the amazing team from Bloodhound Books at Harrogate Crime Writers Festival. I’d gone along by myself for the experience and fate dictated I would bump into Alexina and we would get on like a house on fire. I ended up spending the whole weekend with them and on the final evening I, half-jokingly, asked Betsy for a job reading books. Fast-forward 3 months or so and I was being paid to read a book for the first time ever. The rest, as they say, is history!

I had been reading manuscript submissions for around six months or so when I decided to leave my day job. I worked in the motor-trade and between the long hours and the stress, I was very unhappy. I struck on the idea of becoming an editor and a proofreader, which seemed rather fanciful, so I set about asking for advice from people in the know. The response was a resounding ‘YES!’ Betsy has supported and advised me every step of the way; her faith in me has boosted my confidence in leaps and bounds.

I became a member of The Society for Editors and Proofreaders and completed a few of their courses. In the mean time I became a part-time Publishing Assistant for Bloodhound. It is the most amazing job; it’s a side of the publishing business that most people don’t think about. How do manuscripts become published eBooks and published paperbacks? Well, I am lucky enough to, not only know the answers, but to also actually do the job! I am in the privileged position now to be able to say I love my job.

I have carried out some professional proofreads and the feedback has been fantastic, I couldn’t have asked for more. I have helped an author with the start of their book and they were so impressed they have said they would like me to edit it. Every day I am receiving good feedback from established authors and I feel like I have to pinch myself. I’ve gone from hating my job and being permanently stressed, to loving my job and being willing to do it whenever I am called for. (I have been known to be sorting out problems at 8 in the evening!) I cannot imagine going back to a ‘proper’ job now – I think it would break my heart.

The one part of my business that took a while to sort out was my website – I know nothing about building a website; I can just about navigate one! I put it off and put it off, then I realised if I was going to be taken seriously, I had to have a website. Cue: the usual ‘HELP!’ message on Facebook. I wish I’d done it earlier – I had forgotten my very good friend did website design as part of her job. Face-palm! Becky has her own design business now called Bespoke Personal Designs and the only reason my website looks as good as it does is because of her design skills. I sent her the content and she went to work, producing something I could have only imagined doing myself. She has been extraordinarily patient with me changing things and asking for extra bits to be added, only to change things again.

My new shiny website can be found at, www.overviewmedia.co.uk and on there you will find a list of services I offer. If you don’t see what you’re after, get in contact and I am sure I will be able to help you.

I need to add a massive thank you to Alexina of Bookstormer Blog for suggesting I write a guest blog and for allowing me to launch my website. Alexina and the rest of the Bloodhound Pups have been nothing short of amazing in their support of me and I cannot thank them enough.

The final thank you is to my best friend and amazing husband, Stuart. His unending support and encouragement have been nothing short of brilliant. Thanks to him, I have my own little library, complete with writing desk, and a new business venture that I could not have started without him.
