WOW, okay to begin with I had no idea what was going on, who to trust, and whether I liked Harper.
As the story evolved the threads very slowly and carefully weaved together, like a spiders web.
Waines writing style and narrative was extremely well done to give the unreliable narrative, the unsure nature of what was going on, and the child’s voice was pitched extremely well.
A dark place to hide did have an edgy darkness to it, and once I got settled in to the idea of the story I couldn’t put the book down. This may not be a fast paced book, but it definitely keeps you interested and questioning what is going on.
The more you read, the more that is revealed, the more I enjoyed this book. I didn’t quite think the finish of the book was as dramatic as it could have been, but it wasn’t a let down ending either.
An extremely baffling story that hooks you in. One more tick for Waines books, and eagerly anticipating her next novel.
