Having read Tara’s first book In the Shadow’s that featured Hamilton. I was unsure if she had decided to write more, as I found I was drawn to him as an interesting character and would like to have learnt more about him.
Luckily, Tara has!
In No Safe Home, we are taken on a roller coaster of a ride. From the prologue I was gripped and as always, I don’t like to give plotlines away, but it set the premise for the rest of the story.
There are times when you read a strong opening of a book, or the first few chapters, then the story falters.
In No Safe Home, Lyons didn’t let up the intensity, whether it was from the crimes, Hamilton’s home life, to the various flash backs. I held my breath, dived in and read as much as I could in one sitting.
All this was written in such a compelling way, even the crimes although horrific, to be unsafe in your own home, and murder of a mum and her young son. It was done without too much graphic on the deaths, which made the writing sensitive as well as tense.
I thought I knew who the perp was, but time and again throughout the read I doubted myself.
The main characters and sub characters were believable, and I found I really was routing for Katy right from the start.
Hamilton is hot on the case, and tenacious, I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about him, his team, and the new recruits.
There was a great balance of professionalism and banter, making you feel part of the story. This team works extremely well.
This is a series to get hooked on and I highly recommend it. I anticipate Book 3 to be as intense, no pressure.
