Louise Mullins new book is a domestic noir based novel, with intrigue and suspense.
Beautiful Liar, has an extremely powerful opening starting with Joel's death.
What led him to be were he was? How was his marriage to Erica in reality?
What really does go on behind closed doors?
We have a book with alternating chapters, between Erica and Joel, with flashbacks of how they met, to backtrack to where and how they ended up how they did.
The writing and plotlines are full of suspense, and dread. Even though we have theoretically read the end at the beginning, is all as it seems.
This was a clever way to start the book, as you weren't hurtling through to the end, but more of the why? Joel isn't a nice character, but he is a very interesting read.
There are a few tense moments in the book, and Louise has done an amazing job in highlighting domestic noir, without too much gratification and sensationalism. With twists and turns along the way.
