Harpenden gets Bloodhounded!

I would say I have neglected my blog, but this is what it is here for. To pick up and review, add interviews, and extra news as and when I can. However I have been itching to report to you all, and what better way than my first official Bloodhound Panel.

Luckily I wasn't doing the Q and A, The lovely Katherine who has her own blog www.bibliomaniacuk.co.uk organised the event in Harpenden. When I first heard of the event I so wanted to go, but it is a pain to get there from Cambridge, but I had the best travel partner. So we set off on our adventure.

Katherine quieting the crowd, Panel - Liz Mistry, Betsy Reavley, Alison Morgan, Tara Lyons.

Tara explaining why it is  important to her that  her books are set in London, one reason is that she can visit the areas to set her crimes,...to give as an authentic feel to her DI Hamilton series as she can.   Tara has her fourth novel coming out with Bloodhound later this year, and she certainly peaked my interest - with her teaser that all previous books have threads that are linked and we are going to see the outcome of those in Book 4.

Ali discussing her background in Mental Health Care and how important it was to get the message out to the public, but while writing a rather boring sounding piece of vital information, she decided to go down a different route. This was where A Justifiable Madness came from. Ali has three books with Bloodhound at present, all linked with Mental Health issues, but not in the way you may be surmising. Ali has her fourth novel with Bloodhound coming out in May.

Betsy discussing her new book that will be published on May 4th 2018, and how she likes the dark side...maybe publication date was perfect! She likes to delve in to the darkness of human nature and the horrors we can bring to each other, but luckily she keeps this within the pages of her novels.   Betsy also discussed the reason for setting up Bloodhound and how important it is to them to find the talent that is out there, that may be or has been missed by other publishing houses. Giving authors the chance to have their words retold to thousands mostly in the form of E Book format.

Liz discussing her reasons for writing the Di Gus McGuire series, that is set in Bradford. How she can weave her stories with factual political unrest, while delving in the darkness of the criminal mind. Although she stated, those chapters are short as it isn't a nice place to be. Book Four of the series will also be out later this year.

The sense of friendship, fun, support and dedication to the company, each other and their own personal battles really came through with the authors on the panel.

They are all very different women, they all have a variety of backgrounds, experiences and health issues. Their intention was to discuss their work, but what I did take from this was how much writing a novel, drawing on their experiences whether personal, or what is going on global is that writing has given them a voice.

They were natural, funny, engaging. I work for Bloodhound Books, in one of the beginning stages of the process,

What I saw on stage, I know happens. We really are a fantastic team.

They may all have a darkness within them, they manage to write those down in the format of words and create novels. That is where it ends....I really did get a sense of community and fun, and they support each other.

Unfortunately I am not privy to the author group, but from the description it sounds like a good place to go for help, and to be. I mean, who wouldn't want to know which author asked how to sew on a nipple after it was chopped off, and who was able to answer this question!

However I did manage to scare them, when I put my hand up right at the end of the Q and A, to ask a question.

Luckily for Liz, it was about Gus' mum - and if she would be invited for dinner would she go?
Her answer was " No way."

A truly talented team of ladies, whose nerves were overcome by not only the support of each other on stage, but the belief in what they are writing and once talking about their plots, delving into fictional minds, if I ever write a full length novel, I want to be with this gang.
